Ancient Islamic architecture and culture live on in Uzbekistan at the crossroads of the Old World's largest trading Great Silk Road.

Uzbekistan is just another of many unwieldy countries that made up the broad mantle of Soviet Union. Now, Uzbekistan is rapidly opening up to the outside world. Tourism is one of the one of the areas where capitalism has prevailed.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan's capital, is the largest city in Central Asia and the gateway to the ancient towns of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva (Urgench). One day tour is enough to see the city's Soviet and post-independence architecture. Samarkand, on the other hand, is worth at least a 2-3 days. Samarkand i's also called as a "Pearl of the East"

The Republic of Uzbekistan is situated in the central part of Central Asia between two rivers: the Amudarya and Syrdarya. The Turan Lowland lies to the northwest, and the Tien-Shan and Pamir-Alay mountain ridges are located in the southeast of the territory. The Kyzyl-Kum Desert defines the Northern part of the country. Uzbekistan borders Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. Mostly flat-to-rolling sandy desert with dunes; broad, flat, intensely irrigated river valleys along the course of the Amu Darya, Sirdaryo (Syr Darya), and Zarafshon rivers; the Fergana Valley in the east surrounded by mountainous Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan; the shrinking Aral Sea in the west.

The climate of Uzbekistan is extremely continental with a great number of sunny days. The average monthly temperature in January ranges from -10C to +30C. Summer is hot and dry. The average monthly temperature from +35C to +45C. Autumn is relatively warm and is the season when delicious fruits and vegetables are in abundance in numerousUzbek bazaars (markets).
